I envy anyone who can wear a shapeless neckline like this. I have a short neck and big boobs and require something V neck. I don't not like it, but I feel like this is a hard shape to pull off.
If this girl has hips and boobs and a small waist this dress is going to be just about the most unflattering this ever. If I were to wear this shape it would tack on about 40 pounds.
Agreed! This is the opposite of the wrap-style tulip shape she wanted. This dress would simultanously hide my small waist and make my thighs look massive.
less disco and a bit over budget but still fun and in her size.
although of everything in the original post I thought the ASOS dress was the best option. Or just have one made. it's a simple design she wants and I doubt gold fabric costs very much. Just a thought.
OP here! Thank you all for your suggestions. I hope ESB wasn't making fun of me by showing how crappy exactly what I described look like. Seriously, maybe worst Halston ever, but to be fair closest to what I described. This Vivienne Westwood is kind of bomb but I agree that something that hugs my thighs and not my waist is not as flattering as the other way around. I loved the Alice by Temperley but it's not in my size--I'm a 4/6. Kinda dug the Silver French Connection too, which I'm gonna try and see if they have in the NYC stores. If either was a little more swingy and dance-y it would be perfect. Getting it made is actually a brilliant option, it's just a simple drape design. Thank you all for opening my eyes on this one!
annnd now I feel like the biggest jerk ever for looking a gift horse in the mouth. I love you ESB and hope you weren't in fact making fun of me. I can definitely see how the halston would work with better styling and it's growing on me to the point where I think I might rent it as a last minute possibility. And it is definitely DISCO. chin chin, thank you all again for the suggestions!
OP again--ahhhhh I looooove this. But FMB (fuck my boobs). I dream of halters and backless dresses. Good thing its boob week...what can I do with my boobs in a halter?
Not sure. The halston looks more disco.
ReplyDeleteI think we need a poll. Put the other good ones in too...
ReplyDeletemehhhhhhhhh. there must be something more interesting to poll.
DeleteThis is the one I got, which is actually pretty sexy on. I had trouble making the fancy link shortener work in my browser - sorry!

this one is way better
DeleteI do not like this at ALL. It looks like a drunk fashion school student made it. I like the Alice Temperly and Matthew Williamson better.
ReplyDeletehrmph. maybe i gave the people more credit than they deserved.
DeleteHmm. Now that I see it on a human body I might agree. It looked better on the human-shaped void in the first shot.

DeleteUMmmmmm... nope. Not a dancing dress! More like a matron of honor dress for your dumpy friend who thinks she's dressing "riqsue" sorrrryyy.
ReplyDeleteThe MW was far superior. I don't like the above at all, it's metallic but there's no fun disco vibe.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I kind of preferred the MW.
DeleteThis is not the shape she requested, but I love the back of this dress.
ReplyDeleteThat VW is terrible and not disco at all.
ReplyDeleteThis is disco but sadly not in her size

ReplyDeletedude, just buy the halston. it's FOR SALE for $73. a custom disco dress for under $200 = a nightmare you don't want
Deletethis one, this one! also just $70, also disco, you could give it a tulip hem in a snap if you so chose. the back is fun.

DeleteIf you managed to figure out the boob-halter situation during boobs week ... I love this one.
