Dear ESB,
One of my nearest and dearest is getting married in September. It's all happening on a piece of land by a river outside of the city where we live. She's decided to call her bridesmaids (of which I am one), "The Dream Team" which I find to be fucking awesome.
Right now we're in the midst of finding dresses or top/skirt combos and are in a bit of a bind. The initial vision was really pretty corset tops (not too revealing of course) and high waisted skirts. Now we're thinking sequins/sparkles. We love these dresses, but can't find where they're from and we also assume they're a fuck ton of $$$.
So here's Heidi Klum wearing the bride's dress. You can see it's super light and airy and didn't come with the belt. What do we do?
So we need your and your readers' help! We need to make a decision in the next couple weeks...
Sparkles? Sequins? Fun corset tops and beautiful high waisted skirts?

If the bride is going so light, airy, and simple, the "dream team" is going to look overworked in sequins. Go with something equally simple and light like this Cammie Layered-Hem Dress or this Faith Draped Silk.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress you chose, although I also agree with Jacqueline that the sequins might be too much next to the simple bride's dress. Or you can just say f*ck it and wear sequins, cause that dress is great.

DeletePossibly, although it does speak to the circus-y style and budget. The extra fabric strip in the top (at the front) also echoes the bride's dress, so it could work for the total ensemble.

ReplyDeleteI am always for sequins, but I need to agree with above commenters. However, I thought this is sort of like if your bustier + highwaisted skirts idea came together with the sequins: Asos dress. Just as an inspiration?

Oh, and I love all of these: Needle & Thread for Asos. More than I would want to pay for a bridesmaid/might only wear once dress

ReplyDeleteHere's an assortment of lightly sequinned dresses that might look good mixed together. They're on Yoox, so prices are pretty good, but sizes are limited on some.

I think part of what made the dresses in the photo the OP sent so awesome was that they were an assortment, not overly matched. The mixture takes the edge of the sequins too. The Needle and Thread dresses Christina posted would be good for this too.
This dress and I kept running into each other while I was in London - can you easily get Jigsaw in the Americas? Also, it might be too Flapper if the rest of the wedding isn't that style... maybe I got too inspired by RW on that elephant...

ReplyDeleteAs someone who once worked at FP and tried on that dress, I can attest that it will make you look like the cheap hooker version of a figure skater. and it (like most of their stuff) is incredibly poorly made.
