Desperately Seeking Sonia Rykiel

Hey ESB!

So my friend is getting married and she has asked me to help her find a white dress or suit for her civil union. I've been looking all over the internet and have not found anything in her price range, style and size!

She is a size 10, but in euro sizes more of a 14. Her budget is $500-$1000, so we've got plenty to work with. You and your readers always seem to find the perfect thing, so I figured I'd ask for your help :)

[Pictured above] is a photo of a dress that she wants, but is unfortunately sold out.

Thank you thank you thank you!

Didn't find your dress, but I did find this Sonia Rykel Asymmetrical Jumpsuit which I will be needing for that fashion-y casting gig I'm doing again this spring.

Can anyone find me one for, like, less than $300?

kthx

  1. That jumpsuit is killer. As for the dress, the closest I've found is this silk blazer dress in US size 8. Not ideal, but maybe it wouldn't be too snug left open with slim pants, as pictured in the last image.

  2. Okay, so this one is about 1000% synthetic fiber, but I kind of like it

  3. For the bride, draped jersey dress, $548. Or draped satin dress, $560. Or she could go for something like this in a custom length and color, $748.

For ESB, sleeveless silk jumpsuit, $250. Or
    jersey wrap pantsuit, $313.

    1. I fucking love a drop-waist. Wish I could afford that A.L.C. one for myself.

    1. THAT is not a Pussy Bow. THIS is.

(I created a wordpress account just to make that joke.)

  8. I constantly struggle with the fear of looking back at photos of myself and feeling ridiculous. Which is why I never pegged my pants, curled my bangs, wore gauchos or those weird dress suits that were shorts or capris a few years back (I mean wtf was that anyway) and countless other fashion trends that have come and gone (I did totally wear hammer pants though and I am filled with self loathing for doing so.)

It's not that I don't like these trends when they're popular. It took serious self discipline to avoid some of these. I'm just wondering - am I the only one who worries about this? Granted, jumpsuits are just not something I've ever been into and I don't really think they're very attractive, no matter how skinny and breastless you are, but its always interesting to me when other women are so bold really. That's how I look at it. To me rocking a jumpsuit in 2013, even if you live in L.A. or NYC, takes a bit of balls. Do you feel ballsy, or is this just a part of current fashion in your eyes? Just curious.

    1. I share your worry, Kristen. But I live in a small town in WI, where you get noticed if you wear anything other than jeans and a Carhartt jacket, so. I'm envious of people who live in hip places because they get to wear hip stuff and it totally fits in. But sometimes I do take fashion chances and it feels good to express myself that way...even if it does turn some old man heads at the post office.

    2. um, kristen... that's kind of the whole point. if you can look back at old photos and feel that you might have looked a little ridiculous, then you know you actually looked like a badass.
what's the fun in looking like EVERYONE else?

    4. The thing is, you can't think about it at length like this. You put stuff on, think "Oh this is AWESOME" and then walk out the door. Maybe you look awesome. Maybe you look stupid. Mostly you don't give a shit because you think you are the hottest person who ever put on pants.

::Said the girl who is not afraid to dress in head-to-toe animal print with gold lamé accents::

In short, worry about putting on sunscreen. Don't worry about what trends are "timeless"

      80-year-old you will thank you.

    5. So do you just wear Gap for years on end? Banana Republic every single day? Doesn't it get boring?

    6. @Mary Anne, Gap and Banana Republic are far too fashionable for this town. Can you chop/carry firewood in it without it ripping? Will you care if you get horse/chicken poop on it? Those are the questions we ask ourselves before getting dressed. But I wish you ladies could have been here to back me up the time I wore thigh-high leopard print boots to the bar.

    7. @Tonia, your town sounds awesome.

    8. I actually wear lots of vintage, and I feel like I push the envelope with my fashion sense. But I have a line and beyond that line are trends - which I view like earworms. Sure we all enjoyed Baby Got Back at one point, but now its just humiliating, the same way I feel when I see pictures of myself with a perm. Because that happened too. Ugh. I'm not interested in looking like anyone but myself, but I guess that's why I also shun the weird trends.

  9. ESB, how about this?? The gathering at the front looks a tiny bit worrisome, but it is way less than $300 and my favorite of the suggestions so far.
