What goes with a CITRON wedding dress?

Dear ESB,

I have no idea how to accessorize my wedding dress. I don't want to belt it like it is in the attached image. I bought a pair of Cole Haan peep toe heels in bright coral; they are fine, I guess, whatever, I could probably do better, right? I am total crap at accessorizing - I have no idea what jewelry to wear.

Do you have any advice? I am not afraid of color (obvs.), I don't want to spend millions of dollars or anything, we're getting married in Eagle Rock in July, and I am going to have some elaborate mehndi on my palms but I am South Asian so it isn't going to be some Rachel Getting Married shit.

Thanks!

c) YOU GUYS FEEL LIKE SHOPPING??

  1. That is the best wedding dress I have ever seen.
I have nothing else to add.

  2. The Vegan Peep Shoes would be so perfect! Not sure if you want to add more color or go neutral, but Dannijo makes some fantastic bright earrings. Also, charmandchain.com seems to carry every gorgeous jewelry designer under the sun. (Full disclosure, the owner is kind of a friend. But I stand by the endorsement!)

  3. Would you consider wearing a sash instead of the belt? I love a sashed wedding dress! Here's a pretty one from bhldn, but I'm sure you can get them in all colors and price ranges: http://www.bhldn.com/shop%2dshoes%2daccessories%2dbelts/simply%2dsilk%2dsash%2dbuttercream/productoptionids/a7468505-d6db-4ac6-b442-05c2dce5b309

Your dress is white and yellow, so I'd stick to those two colors plus one or maybe two others and metallics. My go to stores for accessorizing my wedding dress have been Anthropologie if you want to go edgy and bhldn for something prettier. Especially, shop their sales. You can get a lot of good buys! I like the idea of a white sash, pretty white shoes and a sweet little gold necklace with this.

    1. I'm sorry, but categorizing Anthropologie as "edgy" just made me choke on my coffee.

    2. yuk. yuk. yuk. I'm not sure the OP is about sweet little gold necklaces.

    3. No the sash. An even stronger NO to pasting long un-clickable links AND to linking to BHLDN.

  4. A few options:

These sole society pumps that have just a hint of that same citron yellow ($49.95)

    Full Yellow from Yoox ($148)

Or, call me crazy, I think these oxblood red pumps from Evado might look amazing, especially with your mehndi. ($89)

  5. Absolutely love it!!! awesome indeed. I think this, with bright coral pumps and mehndi on the hands, doesn't really need much else; some small earrings and that's it.

  6. I think the dress is probably enough citron yellow- a few bold, chunky accessories would keep things simple but make a statement. How about some red bangles to go with the vegan pumps? No necklace with that neckline- maybe some red circle earrings? I think you can probably skip the belt- maybe get it tailored if you want more definition at the waist?

  7. I'm thinking something blue or green. This neutral pair has a touch of emerald.

  8. Call me crazy but how about some floral? Or black and white stripes?

    Floral pumps

    Alice & Olivia

    D&G

    Alice & Olivia Stripes

I think whatever you do, do not accessorize with black.

  10. sorry i feel like those peep toes are too dainty for this dress.

random question - how dark is your skin, since you are south asian?

if it is light, i'd do a simple nude pump and let the dress and the jewelry (erickson beamon, dannijo, authentic indian pieces, etc.) pop. but i'm south asian and nude/camel shoes look dumb on me b/c my skin tone is way darker so it offsets the leg lengthening purpose... in that case i'd probably do something metallic and simple. i don't think all of resort is up yet so more options will surely become available but here is what i quickly came across:
    rebecca minkoff!

    aquazurra

  12. potentially not the right color (gold, etc), but these mothers are sick.

(I'm feeling chunkster wedges with this dress)

These Michael Kors wedges are gorge, and the camel color could be awesome with the citron dress.

    DVF could be good.

And I kind of love these Veras.

As for jewelry, I'm assuming you won't be wearing the traditional million bangles? If it were me, I'd do a piece or two of black rhodium jewelry, like this or a bracelet like this.

  13. how has no one said GREY? grey & citron are SOOO LE CHIC CHIC CHIC.

these from Zara are perfect and on sale (8 only).

Marais also has some pretty grey options.

    otherwise, I support nude.
ORRR nude/mauve/awesome, like these from Free People.

  15. i might be biased because i bought these shoes for my wedding, but the blush/gold color is gorgeous and has kind of a neutral effect, but prettier and more interesting.

  17. High five for wearing citron!

    I wore this skirt ( http://www.christianvsiriano.com/img/collections/ss2012/SS12DLR_Siriano_1.jpg ) and belt.

I wore nude shoes, neon yellow + gold chain necklace, and a giant ban.do flower in my hair.

I would go the bracelet route with jewelry.

Really digging the blush + citron + olive palette that was posted.

  18. Citron bride here - thanks for the compliments and the suggestions! I am stoked that y'all are feeling the dress! The shoes I have now are patent coral with magenta trim and I am looking at them now and feel pretty good about them? I don't know. As a previous Desi poster mentioned, many of the beige suggestions, while beautiful, are out bc cool toned "nude"(whatever that means) looks dumb on dark skinned girls. Those Loeffler Randall's are definitely tempting, though. Also the idea of crazy florals. We'll see. Either way, all these suggestions are a nice counter to my mother who keeps triangulating her desire to see me in a white dress by saying she doesn't care what I wear, but perhaps my husfriend has always wanted to see me in a poofy tulle monster. NOPE.

Thinking no necklace, gold bangles, a sturdy blue nail polish, and as for earrings, either balls out with some gold hoops or subtle with small green gemstone studs or the Catbird black garnet spike studs (My birthday present! Yesterday! That's *my* man!).

    1. I have the same earrings but in clear/white and I wear them almost every day.

Love the dress. Feel very divided on the shoes. Have the best time ever!

    2. ha! i'm the previous desi poster who mentioned the issue with nude shoes - my well intentioned mom also kept asking why i wasn't wearing white! (wore a neon-ish matthew williamson for the party, sari for the ceremony) so weird, those moms.

  19. If you're Indian you've got to wear a STACK of bangles! On both wrists. Some bright color sandwiched between gold ones. Looks great with mehndi!
