my new year's resolutions are bumming me out.
i do this to myself every year. tell myself i'm going to write every morning, then spiral into depression and anger when i don't write (or don't like what i'm writing) and drink whiskey while watching the bachelor and playing fucking letterpress for four hours in a row just to punish myself.
anyhoo.
here's my new resolution.
EAT TACOS.
try a new taco place once a week, or once a month, or whenever i fucking feel like it.
just. eat. tacos.

i now plan to eat my way through the 10 Essential LA Tacos. if the rest of the recommends are anywhere near as good as Guisados....

DeleteEl Chato on Olympic and La Brea. I'm an L.A-native and this is my favorite place for tacos, a burrito, and an horchata — all for less than $10. It was the best/worst thing ever when I used to live within walking distance to El Chato.
ReplyDeleteI just made some awesome tacos last night with some leftover pulled pork I made, spinach, chopped red bell pepper, shredded sharp cheddar, and "medium" salsa, on whole wheat wraps. Never turning back to ground beef tacos again.
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing w left over pulled pork! I crisp it up and then taco it up. I also love shrimp tacos. Ground beef gets boring... I've made curry tacos once just to change it up!

I've been trying to write more too. This is really fruity but have you tried The Artist's Way? I'm not awesome about doing morning pages but when I do them, something interesting almost always happens. Sometimes it's an insight into what is wrong with me but often I get so annoyed with "journaling" and my own inner monologue that I just start writing the thing I was afraid to work on.

ReplyDeleteI was in Austin last oct (with plans to move there from LI which everyone keeps telling me I'm crazy it's hot but it's currently 12 degrees here so they can stick it) and loved torchys as well as taco xpress. Highly recommend both! And I must add the oasis on lake Travis is terrible! Save your money everyone! And I followed your Austin guide when we were down there!

Deletehow la estrella isn't on there, i'll never know. they're in pasadena and highland park. they might also have a truck somewhere. i'm partial to their cabeza. they also make a mean fish taco, but pretty sure you can't go that route because of the batter. this is the best resolution.

Grew up in Southern California and now live in the South and I miss [good] tacos SO BAD! I can make some decent ones at home (and y'all homemade tortillas are fantastic and actually pretty easy - I use this recipe) but there's nothing like the real deal.
