Hi ESB,
I'm struggling to find something to keep me warm with my dress. I'm getting married in LA (Santa Monica's Annenberg Community Beach House to be exact) early February 2013. I'm planning to wear this Nicole Miller dress. As you can see, half the fun is showing off the back.
That said, it's possible the weather could be finicky in early February. Though we'll be indoors for the most part, it would be great to find something I could throw on if it gets cold. Any ideas for great cardigans? I'm open to non-white (pink, gold...splash of color!) if it goes well with the dress. I'd love to stay under $300 too. Is this an impossible request?
If you have any great finds, I'd love to hear it! I'm a bit stumped.
Thanks!
- Should I Just Wear A Cardigan-Friendly Dress?
This dress is too rad to cover up. Maybe just suck it up and be cold?

Deletehave to agree.
Deleteits one day. its not in the outer hebridies. you'll survive.
word. rock the dress. if you get cold, drink a hot toddy.
DeleteMotorcycle jacket. This dress is too badass for some fluffy cardigan.
ReplyDeleteI would say a simple shawl in a geometric lace pattern. Like so? Or, y'know, we could try bringing long gloves back.
ReplyDeleteOOF is the word that just came out of my mouth
DeleteDouble OOF.
DeleteWhat will it be, 50 degrees? Slap on some pasties and call it a day.
ReplyDeleteyes.
DeleteHere are a few things I like that wouldn't obscure that amazing dress:

I wish Anthropologie had the stole in my wedding colors. I would be wearing that!
That's clearly a leather jacket dress. Maybe in the style of the drapey one that A Safe Mooring linked to in the sequin post?
ReplyDelete(this one)
Fuck. The fancy link worked.
Deleteyou get the fancy seal of approval!
DeleteWhat about a stole? I think it's short enough that you would see some hot back...
ReplyDeleteNothing, you put on your beer coat and suck it up.
ReplyDelete(champagne coat? martini coat?)
Have an extra drink!
ReplyDeleteActually, you probably will be fine. I'm normally one of those annoying people who is cold all the time and I was perfectly fine at my wedding. There's so much going on, and so much hugging. Unless you're going to be sitting still at a long dinner held outside, you'll probably be good to go.
I wore a light dress outdoors when my guests were wearing parkas. You are right - she'll be totally fine.
DeleteHow about going a little over budget for this veil-like hooded sheer scarf!
ReplyDeleteHAIDER ACKERMANN 100%silk craziness for $496.57
Or this beaut, also over slightly over budget:
Deletesilk-wool Faliero Sarti embroidered scarf $383.11
OK this link is only helpful in terms of inspiration, because the item is sold out. But what about some sort of faux-fur mini cape?
ReplyDeleteAlso, i beg you to just say no to the cardigan. Your dress is way too awesome for that!
DeleteThis seems like one of those bride to be obsessions that will never actually matter on the day of your wedding (I'm thinking of my own clutch purse and jacket that got zero use on my wedding day). However, I love the vibe of cara's leather jacket. That seems like something you'd definitely use after the fact. I remember seeing something very similar at BCBG. They've got a pretty nice selection online. I personally like this and this if you're after some color, but I still think you won't end up wearing it.
ReplyDeleteI like these best so far. Let's remember that the whole exercise is just buying a cover-up (that you know deep down you won't wear) so you feel prepared. Buy something you love and would wear again.
DeleteThat dress is awesome.
ReplyDeleteWear it with this:

all heat leaves through one's head so you must wear this hat
ReplyDeleteit will also help your face shape.
Ah, broken link!
DeleteNot true that all heat leaves through the head.
DeleteHead heat myth debunked
Might have been a nice hat though!
My two cents... knit cardigans and fur stoles aren't modern enough for this gown. This might be the perfect time for a bride to rock this bolero.
ReplyDeletethat is awesome. you are a really good shopper.
Deletei got married at the annenberg in april! it was awesome. it was also really cold that day but i just sucked it up b/c the back of my dress was interesting. it was totally worth it. good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rita! I'm super excited :)
DeleteThis dress is amazing - I say leather jacket and depending on your personal preference either in a nice camel color or rock black.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be awesome and more functional after the wedding!
Yeah, I'm leaning leather...or maybe glam fur stole? It's really just for in-between moments if I use it at all. (But I am such a wimp with cold weather!) That said, I'm willing to stay warm with a few extra glasses of wine :)
ReplyDeleteyou're gonna be so drunk and happy you won't be cold.
ReplyDeleteTake your *new* husband's suit jacket and throw it over your shoulders. Isn't that what dates are for on formal occasions ;) ?
ReplyDeleteA blanket. How else to deal with that flowy stuff over the shoulder?
ReplyDeleteSlap one of these on under your Spanx.
ReplyDelete(I work on tv and film sets and use the bigger back ones all the time during the winter, but these ones look small enough to not show under your dress.)
