Dear ESB,
I'm the girl who commented on this post, bought the aaamazing Mara Hoffman dress, and then disappointingly really did not like it on! But, as luck will have it I then found my dress whilst helping my mother look for a dress.
I'm getting married in London next summer. We are having a wedding ceremony in a Georgian space, which is now all white and quite minimalist, followed by a big party in a pub. We suspect as the pub will close at one am, that we will have to head over to our regular late night spot (which also happens to be where we met) which is as close as London can come to a dive bar, and is open until 4am. I'm hoping this will give you a feel for what we've planned.
I'll be wearing this dress, and I thought I was wearing these shoes:
I'm stuck for ideas on necklace/bracelet/earrings etc. I love long earrings, big necklaces and I never wear bracelets. My engagement ring is yellow gold with a cognac diamond. Although I know what I like, I'm kind of terrible at accessorising and I always over or under-do it. Can you and your committed commenters help?
Finally, I'm not certain about the shoes - although I'm a heels kind of a girl, I know I won't be able to dance the night away in these so I'm looking for something a bit lower to change into. My budget is probably £600 (maybe $800ish) as I know I'll wear them again, along with the dress. I think I want something that won't look too far from the original shoes, but I'm open to ideas and opinions! I liked these but I'm worried that they are a totally different look...
Ahh I don't know. What do you think?
Thanks!
With shoes, without accessories.

I think those shoes are FUGLY. Both pairs. (Okay, maybe the Louboutins aren't fugly, exactly. They look like fancy lady lawyer pumps.)
If you've got $800 to spend, why not go Lanvin?
These snakeskin pumps are just the thing to set off your dress.
And then do something like these dangly chain earrings from Macha.
(If they're anything like my Russian chain ring, they are SEE-LAMMIN in person.)
Love the earrings, hate all 3 pairs of shoes. Tried to glance for some quickly but everything is really heavy right now.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress!
ReplyDeleteNone of those shoes are my taste, but I vote for the red ones if only for color.
Totes agree you should just do dangly earrings.
These are the shoes
ReplyDeleteThose McQueen's are ace, but the Louboutin's are too office-y
Those are the shoes! Those are perfect.
DeleteExcept, maybe...too high for a night of on-your-feet-ness?
ew
DeleteThese are the only ones in this post / comments that aren't making me inexplicably hate all shoes, so I second the miu mius.
Deletethe colour of those shoes is perfect! possibly a bit chunky to go with that dress but you're definitely on the right track!
DeleteThe dress is out of this world beautiful. Have to say, with something that subtle, I'd wear shoes in a neutral so as not to overwhelm. Maybe a light luggage brown sort of color? The earrings are great.
ReplyDeleteAdore the dress--the back is incredible. The shoes are so distressingly fug though. Especially the Loubs. Despite being $$$ they look sad secretary trying to interpret Mad Men.
ReplyDeleteThe earrings are gorge.
I would go with a neutral shoe. Minimalism always looks expensive.
That dress is really awesome. I think neutral colored shoes would be the better way to go with a great dress like that. Maybe some that match your skin tone but have a pointed toe or otherwise interesting shape?
ReplyDeleteLove those dangly earrings! I'd love those for my own wedding.
I LOVE the back of your dress. I might recommend this pair; they seem more fun and more summer-y. And you could accessorize with these.
ReplyDeleteNeutral, pointed-toe, lower heel = Done
DeleteI second nicole's shoe suggestion.
DeleteThank God! There ARE still actually nice shoes in this world. For a moment, I was wondering.
DeleteMy god, that dress is gorgeous. Do you have a photographer? Can I be your photographer?
ReplyDeletewith this dress, i'd go BIG AND BOLD with the shoes. this. this. this.
ReplyDeleteaccessories, i'd go with simple big gem studs. i'd maybe add a hair accessory. this. this. this.
linking to Pinterest is LAZYPANTSES
Deletei'm tired. and it took me so long to make the links pretty. so there.
DeleteYES to any of those shoes. I'm meh on the head thingies.
Deletethese, right here are magical in person. i own them and LOVE them, they'd be perfect with almost any hairstyle too. i love wearing my hair down with them because the gold is so fine, it looks like strands of hair. but, they make an amazing statement when you do an up do. Agree with ESB on the shoes.
ReplyDeleteOoooh sorry to completely ignore the question but what bar in London are you going to for your after party? I need to find somewhere with a late licence for my wedding after party...
ReplyDeleteGo to Trisha's on Greek street!
Deletenot a fan of any of the three shoes (like the louboutins, but not for your wedding). instead of a punch of color or embellishment on your shoes, how about neutral snakeskin in a peep-toe pump? maybe the platform will make them comfortable enough to wear all night, too... also, i'm sure there'll be more options come spring.
ReplyDeletenot a fan of any of the shoes, either in the post or comments. i think you need killer black pumps. with the earrings esb suggested... no necklace
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I'd hate to see you add something too fussy to such a Minimalist dress. Just black stiletto pumps and BIG earrings - maybe http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/340278 or http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/320303.
DeleteThese DVFs?
ReplyDeleteI'm usually not into the glitter Kate Spade thing, but I like it on these
I'd go for something simple.
ReplyDeletein black!
Delete+1. These in black.
DeleteIn an indulgent fairy-tale land I'd have both. But these are a definite possibility.
Delete+1! and black is too blah for a wedding imho, minimalism be damned. i'd totally go with the color megclendaniel chose! that kinda muted red tone is exactly what i had in my mind this morning when i read the post and then got too caught up at work to actually hunt down. low key but adds a nice touch of color that brings warmth to match the occasion.
DeleteI hate all three of those shoes for that dress. Your dress is so lovely and soft, but still has a strong architectural aspect to it. I think you need to go simple. The texture and color of the Ester Platform Pump is a perfect compliment. Some might think they're a little boring, but if you're going to go big on the earrings, you don't want to overwhelm the whole look.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a bit in love with these onyx and pearl deco earrings
hate the earrings, but I WANT THOSE SHOES
DeleteYeah, these shoes are my favorite option for footwear.
DeleteYes to those shoes!
DeleteAll three pairs in the post are JUST THE WORST.
Your taste is so random, esb. I feel like you just pick things out to be weird.
ReplyDeleteI love you, Anonymous.
DeleteI agree with those who say that you need a simpler shoe for that dress. A lot of these platform options are just way too clunky for it. I think that a sleek stiletto pump in black or nude would be perfect. Maybe the Jimmy Choo Abel? And no necklace.
ReplyDeletechristian louboutin nude very prive peep toe pumps are appropriate for summer and still formal enough for a bride and you will get tons of use out of them. That dress is timeless, your shoes should match the elegance!
ReplyDeleteLove the gold earrings ESB suggested.
Dear all,
ReplyDeleteTa for the dress compliments, having had several attempts at 'bridal' shopping, I'm pleased as with it.
Thank you, thank you for accessory advice. I agree on the simple and the earrings from ESB are perfect. Shoes need another look, and I'm glad for the fresh eyes. LOVE the miu mius but I think they are overly clunky and a touch wintry for August. However, Loeffler Randal may be my new best shoe-friend.
Apologies for the late reply, I've been on a tear-twenty five-13-year-old-girls-away-from-boys school trip today.
Cara - we do have a photographer I'm sorry! We have booked the wonderful Craig and Kate.
Anonymous - we will be heading to The Dolphin on Mare Street, not central or adult friendly, but I love it. And the Victorian tiles are amazing. (I hope my final architectural comment of the day isn't too vague - the Georgian thing made sense in my head, sorry Fiona!)
ESB I kind of hate and love the Lanvin's you suggested all at the same time, maybe need to try them on..I also hated the Louboutin's I picked as soon as I saw the pic you posted. The jury's still out on the McQueen's, maybe the Loeffler Randal rose-lizardy ones though.
Will keep you updated.
I'm still curious, where's this lovely minimalist 'Georgian Space'?
DeleteAh the dolphin! I love that pub and had completely forgotten about it (haven't lived in the UK for years) My wedding is in East london so that's actually perfect.
DeleteAwesome! Where east are you getting married?
DeleteOh and, space is a non-church part of a Scandinavian church in a converted Georgian building in central London. But we're not having a religious ceremony.

ReplyDeleteIf you want color, I say go with these. they are a perfect compliment to that dress. Everything else in the world of internet shoe shopping sucks balls right now. If I see one more platform pump I'll die. Sorry I couldn't figure out the code converter.
Love.
Deletegorgeous
Deletethese are awesome!
DeleteReally lovely, especially the colours, but not me..I don't really do 'sandals'.
DeleteWhat about the grey shoes on the model in the link the writer included for the dress. I think they are simple and beautiful - plus grey, gold and cream is gorgeous!

Becky - love the shoes, in fact - I may be sold on those - not hot on the earrings at all.
DeleteThose shoes are gorgeous. I don't know if anyone has suggested these or not but these Chrissie Morris shoes are gorgeous

Plus with a slick of red lipstick I think they'd look amazing.
Rachael, how did your wedding go? What did you end wearing with your dress?
