From the librarian's mailbag
(Did you all know I moonlight as "the librarian" over here? Cevd can't be bothered to answer emails from crazy people.)
7:47am
to librarian:
Your widget appears on a block called “F*ck Yeah! Book Arts” (I added the asterisk for the filters) and it really reflects badly on your brand.

to marketing know-it-all:
Are you fucking kidding me?? That blog looks fantastic.
Thank you for alerting us.

Well, I won’t be sharing it with my hundreds of Facebook fans and PInterest followers, because I don’t want them to think I hang with juveniles who think it’s cool to say “fuck” as many times a possible. Grow up.

fuck.
ReplyDeleteBahahaha this is the best.
ReplyDeleteAnd for good measure, I'll add a few "fucks" to the pile:
Fuckitty fuck fuck fuckeroony.
i've shared it with my stalkers and ex-lovers and mailmen, so it all balances out.
ReplyDeleteMy favesies fuck-loving for realz librarian is going to die over this.
ReplyDeleteOld people* are fucking clueless.
ReplyDelete*I mean, only old people don't get the "fuck yeah" meme, right?
hahahha. Please, for the love of god, DON'T share it with your fans and followers!
ReplyDeleteYou better fucking regulate everyone that uses your widget. Because... you know... that's totally reasonable.
ReplyDeleteWhat's funny is that "fuck" is only said once. Fuck, that's fucking hardly "as many [fucking] times as [fucking] possible".
ReplyDelete1. i didn't receive that email.
ReplyDelete2. you're just better at answering them.
it's true, i really nailed this one.
Deletei still can't get over that you potentially lost 100s of facebook fans seeing your site.
ReplyDeleteliving on the edge, man.
Sorry for the personal story, but this is appropriate for your blog, ESB...
ReplyDeleteI managed to hide the fact that I swear like a sailor from my easily offended mother for years, that is until I got engaged and found myself shouting things like "I AM NOT FUCKING arranging the wedding party table for better photo opps!" and "I AM NOT FUCKING doing x, y, or z!"
Moral of the story: sometimes "fuck" is necessary, even if it offends. Or ESPECIALLY because it offends.
Still can't get over how many thin-skinned people cross paths with this blog. Maybe you should be an honorary librarian since you do so much on-the-spot retail research for readers.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Actual librarian and frequent reader here. Love the swearing librarian image--more realistic.
YEAH DUDE!!
ReplyDelete(Sorry, just outed myself as totally juvenile.)
Hi there! I'm Leah - I'm the girl running 'Fuck Yeah, Book Arts!' (and also a juvenile, apparently!) Can I just say a massive thank you for recommending on my blog, and sticking up for 'Fuck' :D I've received a handful of similar messages over the years regarding my blog's title (example: http://fuckyeahbookarts.tumblr.com/post/17653049907/you-share-excellent-and-interesting-work-on-here-that-i) and they leave me rather bewildered at times. As an Irish lass, I don't really understand what's so bad about the word 'fuck' (a word which after all targets no specific group or gender), or why it should keep a person from checking out a helpful resource blog of non-offensive book art! Anyhew, if anyone's interested, here is a short history lesson on the word 'Fuck' which might alter some folks perspective on the whole debacle: http://fuckyeahbookarts.tumblr.com/post/17657409707/thoughts-on-fuck
ReplyDeleteTake care x
