Drama with the MIL (Part 563)
When the mother in law calls the rehearsal dinner "technically her party" and constantly reminds you that she is paying for it to make you feel bad and she doesn't want to let you invite your brothers but wants to invite her brother & niece who haven't seen the fiance since he was 5 and she is the only stressful part of an otherwise easy planning process but she eventually agrees to do what you want to do...do you let it go? Or call her out on the offensive, passive aggressive shit and get ready for a brawl?

YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANTED.
The point of further antagonizing this woman would be...what??

yeah, dude. don't poke the hornet's nest. TRUST ME. your relationship with her doesn't END with the wedding ... it's only just begun ! and you want it to be as amicable and pleasant as possible.
ReplyDeleteI was totally going to comment: Don't poke the bear.
Deletebut what you CAN do is ask your husband to articulate some boundaries on your behalf. For instance, not having your family at the rehearsal dinner is completely unreasonable, and HE can be the one to point that out.
ReplyDeletei am so happy this part of my life is in the past.
ReplyDeleteTRUE THAT
DeleteI got into a screaming match with my MIL 20 minutes before the rehearsal dinner (which was at MY house). Not fun...better to suck it up and be the better person. Their passive aggressive crap sucks to take, but its easier than a rift.
ReplyDeleteif your future husband hasn't said anything to your FMIL about this you've got bigger problems
ReplyDeleteUmmm yep. Red flag! Red flag!
