Oscar-Worthy Frocks: The Vote!

Last night I FINALLY had high speed internet + a few solid hours to sort through your Oscar-worthy dress submissions.

I very quickly developed a pretty strict set of rules:

1. FULL-LENGTH

2. NO CHEAP SPARKLES

3. NO CHEAP ANYTHING

As Fine Persecution pointed out, our girl is a journalist, not a celebrity. She needs to look fabulous without looking like she's trying to compete.

My three faves were... The Aidan Mattox Belted Linear Dress ($395, pictured above).

Theysken's Theory Long Side-Slit Dress (Originally $690, Now $241)

Yigal Azrouël Green Satin Charm Gown (Retail $1695, Rental $250)

UPDATE: Here's the elusive Max & Cleo.

  2. the reader said she was busty and going without a bra wasn't an option, she'd also be running around - while I LOVE the Aidan Mattox dress - it doesn't fit her criteria at all

  3. how can you say no to tulle?!

  4. the green nearly took it - i love me a green dress - but that TT dress is for a sexy, lethal ninja-journalist and must be worn.

  5. They're all super hot, but I voted green Azrouel. Its stunning, classy, and at the Oscars, she'll be gorgeous without being over the top. Go green!! It is the Oscars after all :)

  6. Kyli's purple one was way better than all of them (but I voted for the green one). I think the writer looked like me (pale redhead only bustier) and I would prefer wearing green over black - I'd feel way more special.

  7. I found the purple dress here admittedly less well photographed but also less than Bloomies...

  8. gaaaah that purple dress was KILLER. but i must admit, I'm a fan of the green. big-time.

  9. #3! Or the purple dress -- that really is the bestest.

  10. Doh -- just saw in the comments that the journalist is busty -- as a busty gal myself, there's no way #3 is gonna work, with the (awesome) sheer side panels down the back of the dress. Unless maybe a nude or black cami can hide some bra action? Or a black strapless longline type?

Kyli's option is at Dillard's online in several sizes!!

  11. Wow its amazing how different that purple dress looks in the Dillard's photos vs the Bloomingale's photos. Its pretty terrible looking in the Dillards pictures. Either way, I love #2, wish it was a little less casual looking but its still better than the rest.

  12. LOVE the Theory dress. It would make an excellent wedding dress if it came in a brighter or softer color.

  13. the purple! (can we put it back in the running?) I think it's just styled terribly and too short in the dillard's picture.

  14. Kyli's purpled draped situation at Dillards.

  15. GREEN DRESS=so hot... dying at my desk... want

  16. I love the Theysken's Theory dress also, but it has a very low back, and I wonder if that would be a problem for the bra issue. Actually they all seem to have issues in that department, except for the purple. I voted for the purple, plus the color is lovely.

  17. I want the tulle, therefore I chose that. I suppose all the others might be more practical? But why be practical when you get to wear an evening gown legitimately?

  18. I want an update to find out what she ACTUALLY ends up wearing! With pictures!
    I voted green.

  19. that green dress is really something special.

  20. I lovelovelove the green dress but voted for the purple one because it's great as well and she gets to *keep* it

  21. I do realize that bra purchase is necessary, I just don't understand how one would work with those dresses...I am not gifted in that department, however, so I don't know what is out there...

  22. I have a 38D chest and I just wear a pretty lace bra if the setting allows me to pull it off, or use a corset that has a low back. Only low-cut in the front is ever an issue for me (but that's because I never feel comfortable too revealing).

Victoria's Secret has this great low back bra (lol if you must!). It offers great support and is rather useful in all kinds of wardrobes.

  23. I voted for the TT for the same reason I suggested it. The back is on the low side, but I'm pretty sure that a low back bra would work.

I also think it is the most re-wearable and looks killer but also comfy. And you could totally change its look with different accessories.

I do love the Yigal, but I admit that it might require a consultation with some kind of professional stylist who's a foundation garment/fashion tape ninja.

  24. Being a broke ass myself I understand the desire to want an amazing dress and having to go with the more affordable dress. So even though the green dress would look hot as hell it would definitely require a good bra investment on top of the dress rental. Purple dress gets my vote.
