Dan Savage of weddings just turned into Perez Hilton of weddings! This garbage is BORING and catty! A crappy response to a post is one thing but a really poorly executed attack on your followers who called you out on it is just not very interesting. Dan Savage is humble and can take what he dishes out, ESB is clearly from a different camp. -Anon
@esb what the eff is going on around here!? I've been in transit for three days and I come back to this! Who are all these awful anons? I was just about to email you my cactus garden pics and thank you for your awesome helpfulness. Chin up.
Why are people back to bitching so hard about the stuff you post? It's hardly as if your "Kindly go fuck yourself with this" posts are a new phenomena. I thought they were part of why people read this blog, actually. It's certainly part of why I read it... the reality check is healthy.
And as for those who would comment their own dramatic exit: No one is going to chase you, so thanks for making more room for bitches like me who are happier to see real responses than vapid hand-holding.
yeah, go away anon. you made your point. yes that post was a tad bitchy, but the writer was also a tad lazy. can we move on???? and by that i mean you should move on, like to a different blog.
Isn't this what always happens on the internet? Like, I think there's a correlation in online communities (PLEASE TELL ME SOMEONE WROTE THEIR THESIS ON THIS & LINK TO IT SO I DON'T HAVE TO TYPE IN GOOGLE MYSELF) between traffic increasing to a certain N and anonymous efforts to destroy said community. And by "destroy" I don't mean simply disagreeing with posts, moderators, etc.- this is often quite valuable. I mean rumor mongering (i.e. someone on an earlier thread suggested ESB does not write her own posts anymore), bombing with comments under different/anonymous IDs coming from the same IP address & saying basically the same thing, unsubstantiated claims that the blogger has "changed," etc. Threadjacking of a specific sort, essentially.
So what I'm saying is, if you're engaging in this kind of behavior, you might be bored, or sad, or angry, or jealous, or suffering a personality disorder, or some other thing I don't personally understand 'cause community destruction is not among my vices; but don't think for a second that you're interesting or in any way original. Everything you're doing has been done before.
I love how the Anons write in to say they are leaving... um, you are obviously still checking in and reading this here blog when YOU POST A F*CKING COMMENT. Just stating out the obvious...
My names Calle - Just so no one thinks I'm a coward...
I love this blog for the fresh advice - it's been uplifting to read sometimes... But if I was being honest - lately it's been a little less fresh a little more bitchy. I didn't get involved in the last super long post... But this response a bit immature. And it probably isn't true - because you do want readers, don't you?? *I'm not real sure I understand the point of blogs, but I thought people made money off of these things.
You make money off of it if you have tons of sponsors and ads. You want to see money makers, go to Wedding Chicks, Green Wedding Shoes, Snippet and Ink, and the like. They also post fake weddings, and they all look the same, and are rarely ever helpful or realistic. In an industry of Yes Ladies, I'll take some bitchiness if it comes with a whole lot of genuine personality.
Hey Melissa, see all those ads on the right hand side of your screen? Those are sponsors. You also may have noticed that the wedding jewelery suggestions often come from one of these sponsors, generating more traffic for them and more ad dollars for ESB.
I'm not suggesting that the catty behaviour is justifiable on either side, or even that ESB is making a mint off her blog (I simply don't know), but you're ignoring facts if you think she has no financial gains from this blog.
By they way, I think people generally post as anon because it's the easiest, quickest way to post, especially if you don't have a url to link to.
writing as someone whose wedding esb has mocked, all anons are not the same. ive been a reader for quite some time and really looked up to her advice and admired her posts, but she cut the biggest day of my life down a notch for entertainment value. yeah, you're getting traffic out of this, but i can't help but say: go f yourself eastsideanon. it's easy to hide behind your blog.
your label game is at an all time high. i'm jealous.
ReplyDelete@woolandmisc I'm glad you said something! I was about to fuck with it.
ReplyDeleteWhy would you care if your readers think you've gotten full of yourself and posts have gotten shittier....
ReplyDeleteAt least your friends will keep you company while your actual readers leave to find someone slightly more hip and way less narcissistic.
Poor love.

I agree with anonymous here. I hope you do lose readers over this. You deserve it.
