What's Catholic church appropriate but Santa Fe awesome?


Dear ESB,

I'm sorry it seems you've become a personal shopper, BUT you/your readers are doing such a great job at it... here's one more cry for help.

We've recently scrapped the Big Traditional East Coast Wedding in favor of escaping to Santa Fe, NM (where we met). Think historic Catholic church ceremony followed by tapas, margaritas, and a big beautiful vegan cake. Just us and our wonderful/crazy immediate family (25 people total).

What do I wear that is Catholic church appropriate but also Santa Fe awesome? 

Note: no Mexican-esque floral embroidery, please.

I have no idea if it's Catholic church appropriate, but I'm pretty sure this Ralph Lauren is SANTA FE AWESOME.

May I suggest something in... turquoise?

    uhm. Santa Fe is my "other" home. i'm crazy about it. I've been writing a full length feature film about it for the past 10 yrs...and i'm giving this post an emphatic 2 thumbs up.

    Something by Temperley London, perhaps...I like the Long Jacquelyne Dress personally and I feel like it is formal enough but also captures the laid-back desert vibe thing. But don't know your budget...

    turquoise the color = lovely
    turquoise the stone = costumey (for Santa Fe)

    From someone who has been to a lot of Catholic weddings... You can wear whatever anyone else would wear to any type of church wedding. Short(er) dress, long dress, strapless... That said, I love the idea of wearing something that fits in with the atmosphere of Santa Fe.     @esb i just went there again for a little vacation a couple weeks ago. i had to buy 2 extra suitcases (large ones) in order to carry all the shit i bought. i brought back half of santa fe with me.

    I never comment (lurker) but I have to on this one becuase I'm from Santa Fe, still live here, and love, love, love it. YES to lace. And I think yes to turquoise, too,but then, I do wear it regularly. Or a deep red flower in the hair or a concha belt or rad cowboy boots. But not all of these at once. And then a casita at Ten Thousand Waves.

    You guys rock! Those are all beautiful dresses (and no floral embroidery!). Thanks for the Santa Fe natives assuring me that the dress code for East Coast Catholic and Santa Fe Catholic are a bit different, I'm definitely leaning towards the shorter options. I love the sleeves, but I'm not sure how much I be able to tolerate in June.

    Finally: Yes to ten thousand waves. Of course.
