I've got your wedding dress RIGHT HERE
Dear ESB,
My sweetie and I just got engaged and I'm over the moon with excitement. However, all it took was a few keystrokes and my excitement was challenged by the fact that there are hardly any wedding dresses with sleeves! We are thinking of having our wedding in the winter time (Chicago winter) and think that those little sleeves would come in handy for my Windy City nuptials. Help!
*****
I think this
Proenza Schouler would be gorg on you.
Wait. Did you mean
long sleeves?
(Via TeenAngster)
how about older pronovias? like this: http://www.oncewed.com/21025/used-wedding-dresses/size-14/balcan-by-san-patrick/ ?
ReplyDelete@Angela no.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is redic. I love it with my whole heart and soul.
ReplyDeleteWithout knowing your personal style, it's hard to give advice, but, perhaps if you can't find a dress you like that has sleeves, you could simply add a bolero or cardi or shawl or something?
Such as:

Ok that last one is downright nordic, but hey it's Chicago in the winter!
you could always go with whatever dress you like and then get a bas ass shrug, cape, vintage fur, etc.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is GORGEOUS.
ReplyDeletehahaha, ok, fine. and agreed with tonia, we need to know what kind of style she has.
ReplyDeleteVintage is always a good bet too. Those older dresses tend to have sleeves.
ReplyDeleteOr like Tonia said, get a cute bolero or cardigan.
I know Midwest winters more than I'd like to but you'll be in the heated indoors for the most part (if you're smart) so you don't necessarily need anything sleeve-like if you don't want/can't find the perfect anything.
Have you checked Temperley London?

The Long Jessamine is available here:

The Long Jean is for sale at a reduced price here:

Or, you could choose a designer to custom-make a dress for you. Elizabeth Dye would be my pick: http://elizabethdye.blogspot.com/ and

Good luck! xo.
oh YEAH, speaking of elizabeth dye...THIS bolero doesn't have much to speak of in warmth, but it kicks ass.

I want to get married again so I can wear that dress.
ReplyDeleteI think this would be super fucking classy:

It would also be a little more rewearable than a full on stole.
Although, this one is pretty awesome:

fur cape!

@Melissa OMG YES dude you found some good ones. And please, Chicago winter bride, please wear these on your head: http://www.etsy.com/listing/65358276/warm-beige-earmuffs
ReplyDeleteGASP!
ReplyDeleteif you've got boobies that dress is going to make em look like they're resting on your hips
ReplyDeleteThat dress is bellissima...
ReplyDeleteESB, that looks like my granny's night gown. And it costs over $1000. My granny got her nightgown for less than $10 at Walmart.
ReplyDeletei LOVE that dress. man, get out there and find your wedding dress, it's like...at least 2/3 the fun - finding your dress and him finding his tux and what not...there's tons of places to start...don't get stuck in something on your wedding day that someone else picked for you, though, eh?! just a thought.
ReplyDelete@prac,schmac or if you have a tummy and no boobs that dress is gonna make it look like you're all waist
ReplyDeleteI want that dress but I will never be able to wear it. Only the skinniest may apply.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you have to buy a dress, go to a seamstress and get one made for you. That's what I did.
Never mind the cold, it's amazing to me how many brides are buying into the strapless dress craze without considering what their arms look like.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I live in Chicago so I get where you're coming from. The only dresses I've seen with sleeves are hideous. I'd wear a little fur or leather jacket over my dress.
ReplyDeleteI also have a friend who got married in Chicago a few years ago. Her mom, who's a good seamstress, made her a beautiful red cape. The bride looked like she had stepped out of a few fairy tale.
You would have to be tiny tiny tiny to look okay in that dress. Also, I covered the price and asked my brother to guess the price: $25.
ReplyDeletecommission blushless. clearly.
ReplyDeleteUm, anyone seen the Demetri Martin bit on this topic? How he went to party and saw a guy wearing a leather jacket and he was like, wow, that guy is cool. And then a guy in a leather vest showed up and he was like, wow, that guy's so uncool. And his conclusion: the difference between cool and uncool is leather sleeves.
ReplyDeleteJust throwing that out there.
That dress is boring on it's own and I'd never consider wearing it for my wedding. Why are all wedding dressed $1,000+? If I were you I'd find an amazing fur stole or jacket instead. Or search for vintage.
ReplyDeleteThis post got me thinking...so much that I decided to do a blog posting on what I would do for a winter wedding in the snow. Mood boards, invitations, everything. I REALLY got into it! Thanks for the inspiration, I gave you a link to let readers know what my source of thought came from...Here it is.

FWIW I got married in Chicago in January in a dress without sleeves and I was fine. I wore a coat to and from, and I was so high the rest of the time I was never cold.
ReplyDeleteWow, so many body issues in these comments. That makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteThank-you east side bride readers! A lot of great advice here! xoxo
ReplyDeleteESB, long sleeves might be cool on the right dress, otherwise, this baby is perfect! xoxo
