Dear ESB,
I've been thinking that I only want to have dried flowers for my wedding, specifically dried peonies. For table decorations, it would be a mixture of dried peonies, larkspur, sweet annie, german satice, sea lavender, and ammobium, all dried as well. I just really love the vintage feel they give, not to mention the price.
What say you? Is this too tacky?

dried flowers = much bettah than plastic flowers. but there is something a tad melancholy about them, i have to say.

So melancholy but I love the idea. It conjures up images of gothic romance.
ReplyDeletebut if it's what you like...why not?? and if you use dried flowers, it will be easier for you and your loved ones to take some arrangements home to enjoy and remember the evening for a long time to come.
ReplyDeleteall i can think of is them crumbling. but if you can find a way to avoid that it sounds like it'd be beautiful. raw cotton could compliment them, too
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree that they would be very classic looking and depending on the other features around them you could push away from the melancholy feel and get romantic. Sounds nice!
ReplyDeletejust so you know, dried flowers usually aren't much cheaper than fresh flowers, if at all (especially, peonies). also, since they're dried, you'll need more stem count to make your arrangements look lush and not scraggly. but if that's your thing, and price isn't the deciding factor, it could be kind of cool.
ReplyDeleteLight colored flowers that are dried would be pretty mixed in with paper flowers, like in this post: http://laughingwithangels.blogspot.com/2010/11/pure-prettiness-of-pink.html
ReplyDeleteI think darker colored flowers just end up looking brown/dead/not so pretty when dried. Stick to light colors and it could be very vintage and sweet looking.
I think it would be very vintage and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHowever, don't use dried flowers just to use flowers. If you don't like flowers (or the expense), you don't have to use them at all!
i think it would be beautiful...however, i definitely think you have to be careful that the rest of the decor doesn't head to the "drab" department or it will look like a "corpse bride" wedding, you know?
ReplyDeletei think you can use them if you promise to play this at your reception.
ReplyDelete(bonus: groom style!)
Dried flowers make me itch. I like cut flowers that are alive but LOOK kind of dead. Lugustrum berries, nigella pods, all things hellebore (they have murky colors that are really evocative.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I would be too worried about them being too fragile and ppl breaking them while touching them to see if they were real.
ReplyDeleteI got an email about this from another florist, who told me:
ReplyDeleteFYI, dried flowers are often considered a bad omen and/or luck. Their finest hour has already past and their lifeforce is gone.
That being said, the bride-to-be's choices of flowers would be very vintage-looking and what's more, beautiful, if alive! =)
Bit late to this but all I could think of were the lyrics "send me dead flowers to my wedding; And I won't forget to put roses on your grave"...
ReplyDeleteWhich seems rather melancholy.
That said, I dried a bridesmaid's bouquet I had once and it has turned the most beautiful pale white shade and looks really interesting. It took 2 years for that to happen though - when's the wedding?!
