H and I co-wrote a guest post that just went up on unruly things.*

Topic: Ten Reasons Being Married Is Just Better.

If you care to submit a suggestion for REASON #11 in the comments below, the winner (to be determined by H-town) will receive a copy of the super rad mix cd I made for the swap last month but never got around to posting.

  1. Aww, y'all, that list is AWESOME. I appreciate #2 and #3 most of all. I'm not married yet; my fiance and I get hitched in October. I'll be sure to report back to you with my Reason #11.

  3. honesty. REAL honesty. friends usually pussyfoot around your issues, but husbands and wives use the no-bullshit approach. at least, we do. as much as it feels like i hate it sometimes, i'm so grateful for it.

  5. everything is cheaper when you split the cost of it! your home, car, bills, etc. not having to tackle that alone is the bomb dot COM

  6. someone to chase away the boogeyman and the monsters under the bed

  7. i have to agree with accordionsandlace. our sitch is more that we doubled our book collection. our tiny cottage looks like it moonlights as a library. also, he is a perfect moderator during arguments with my parents, because he knows that we all argue the same way. ha!

  8. because you never have to plan a wedding again.

  9. Lifestyle smugness, perhaps.

  10. naw, we've always been insufferably smug.

  11. Okay, I'm not married*, but I'm voting for Elizabeth.

*Last weekend his family asked us if we were going to be "one of those liberal couples that never gets married." We told them we're planning a wedding for 2025, and if they are well behaved we might have it in 2020.

  12. #11: I'm looking forward to being able to go through customs together when we travel since we'll be one family.

  13. #11: When your married you always know you can count on someone to take care of you when your sick. Whether it be...
bringing him vintage comic books, hot tea, and homemade chicken noodle soup in bed.
Watching Bright Star with her while playing with her hair and handing her tissues.

  14. tutu's on the ceiling!! love it.

here's my #11: calling my wife "my wife" or "my husbian" & getting funny faces...

  15. Someone else to do the dishes after I've wrecked the kitchen cooking or baking. (Though usually on his own time, which can mean the next day. But it gets done, and not by me.)

And someone who also reads in bed at night, especially if we read the same books (not at the same time).

  16. my #11 - dental insurance, baby, woohoo!

Also, initiative to buck up and GO to the dentist. No one wants to be the wife with the teeth falling out of her head when she's 40.

  17. <3 this! I also vote Elizabeth.

  18. #11: He doesn't want to divorce you when you forget to flush the toilet after going no. 2.

  19. @ Elizabeth I wish! We are still in the paranoid place.

#11 He will fix my computer so I don't have to call the Geek squad. In return I will flirt with said geek squad member so that he can get the last droid phone in the whole state. Its friends with way better benefits.

  20. #3 is it, baby. We were together for eight freakin' years before we got married, and this is the biggest change I've noticed. And @ elizabeth, sadly we still use condoms just as much...

#11 - knowing that we are a team. When it comes to setting a budget, starting a business, raising children (when and if we get there)... we handle the scary sh*t together. That is the best feeling for me.

  21. We aren't married yet, but this would be my...

#11- Being able to tell me honestly when I'm being ridiculous. He has no problem telling me when I've over thought things and I'm drilling them into the ground. I love to over analyze and he can put a stop to it, and should! :)

  22. #11 He has someone to remind him to shower on a regular basis...and to join him in said shower.

  23. @longlivelovedesigns- Ha.
Um. Half the time I wash my hair not because I feel like it but because I know there will be someone next to me in bed smelling it.

  24. #11 Being awesome to each other and together.

  25. Not married, but my live-in #11 is:

When we eat a bag of chips (or insert other junk) + magnum bottle of wine, we don't feel pathetic - instead we feel a little awesome.

  26. I'm engaged, not married, but after cohabitating for 13 months I feel like I've got a handle on what our marriage is going to be like. My #11 could very well be:

We work on fun projects together, whether it be searching out the city's best burger, exploring all the hiking trails, hosting themed dinner parties, or making a blanket fort in the middle of the living room, leaving it up for three weeks (even when we have guests) and playing video games in it.

  27. It's way less cheesy to use BOGO coupons at restaurants.

    ReplyDelete
  28. when people ask us "when are you two going to have a baby?", responding with either "when we need to save the marriage" or "maybe we will make one tonight". It's fun to watch people's reactions.

    ReplyDelete
  29. these are so funny! #3 was my favorite. I'm excited to find out what my #11 will be...

  30. #11 there is someone else to clean up when you projectile vomit all over the bathroom

#11b you can complain about his family with relative impunity. Pre-marriage there was always the chance he'd decide he preferred his criminally insane relatives to you.

  31. @elizabeth: how'd that work out for ya?? ;)

I lurve these. I want to make R play with me.

  32. Touching toes in bed and knowing that person will always be there. :)

  33. I just read your list on unruly things and had to come check out your blog...so great!
#1 may be my fave but i still tend to do this with a sly look on my face.

#11 Fiance is a funny word, I couldn't say it without a silly accent. Husband is much better!

I know without a doubt that my husband would say his #11 is now he can stop worrying about going bald because someone will always love him, with or without his hair!

  34. #11 Having someone to calm you down and remind you to breath when you're having a stress attack about work, life...dinner...at any time of the day or night...and feeling like they will help you shoulder at least part of your worries- not because they have to but because they want to:)

  35. oh i love this! !!!!!!
    since i am not married I don't wanna come with a #11
but most of the things listed here, reflect ma idea of what it should be like!
