TOTALLY SHAMELESS
You guys, I'm losing my shit. Who am I to tell you not to borrow dogs for your wedding when I'm running around the internet borrowing photos of hipster puppies and bizarre, beautiful hairless cats?
Actually, I think I'm lonely. After almost a year of working from home, H-town just started a new three-month gig that is taking him away for roughly 12-14 hours a day. The waking hours, basically. When he got the offer, I was all for it. First of all, we can use the money. And secondly, I thought, This is my chance! He'll go do his thing and I'll work all day long! I'll be so creative! The jury is out on whether or not I'm actually more creative when I'm rattling around alone. But come 8 o'clock, all I can think is, Wah. Where is my husband?
The good news is, the dirty dishes are not piling up at all. They feed him while I eat granola and yogurt for lunch and a turkey sandwich for dinner. It's like I'm single again. I am getting a little concerned about my consumption of fruit and vegetables. Must walk to the farmer's market tomorrow. MUST.
The whole car-sharing thing has suddenly kicked into high gear, and H is being a super star. He biked to Beachwood Canyon and back yesterday, in the rain, because I needed the Volvo to get to a meeting that was canceled. All I can say is I better step up my whole exercise regime* before he gets in really good shape and realizes what a blob I am.
(Photos of Hiro, or Hirohito Yoda, by fine little day)
*What exercise regime?
**Update: I completely forgot to mention that this hairless cat post was sorta inspired by this bald rad post. I gave Peonies shit for reposting it, but I love it. Obv.
I'm too distracted by this gorgeous freak kitty to even comment on the rest. I keep imagining him living in my house spreading his hairless charm. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so late and my eyes are screaming at me to get off the computer.
Expect a more through comment tomorrow-ish.
Stick to your guns. Be creative on your alone time.
ps: ILY
I feel ya. There are days when the boy is gone all day, and I find by the time he gets home I haven't left the couch...um all day. Get a cat, or a dog. My pooch keeps me company when there's nothing else living and breathing in the house until dusk. And then you can go on walks (don't walk the cat just the dog, ppl who walk their cats are dumb) and thus you can take up that exercise "regime."
ReplyDeleteohno. don't you dare make me start wanting a dog. efffffffff.
ReplyDeleteyou are not a blob, you crazy. i bet you could fit five of your asses in one of mine, mkay?
ReplyDeleteand yeah, you should definitely get a pooch. because they're so fucking adorable.
((()))
ReplyDeleteDude, get a pet. Dog, cat, whatevs. They are adorable and then when you talk to yourself, you can actually talk to them instead and won't feel like such a weirdo. Not that I have experience doing this. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd the whole working opposite schedule of you partner. Yes I have this. I work 10-5. He works 3-12. There are times we go multiple days without seeing each other more than in bed, which I guess is the most fun time to see the other anyways.
I have the opposite situation. I'm the working one, he's the home-worker. It's hard.
ReplyDeleteJ and I share a car. It's been about a year now. So far, so good. Sometimes, it is a pain - I will admit it. But he is a trooper. (I think it is because I am not the best driver. Whatev.)
ReplyDeleteHang in there. Oh, and I love my dog. Maybe it's not such a bad idea.
Precontemplating vegetable purchase is the first step.
ReplyDeletetotal dog person but i love hairless/siamese type cats. i'm allergic but they are so cool looking that i can't help myself. a friend of mine has an albino siamese. sounds freaky but it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is working away (2 weeks on, 1 week home). The one week he is home is fab but the 2 weeks are SOOOO long...it is cleaner around the house tho and I like just eating sandwiches for dinner.
ReplyDeleteI want a puppy. I've wanted a puppy for AGES but we rent and no one will let us have one so I talk to my fish. I think that cat is a little too hairless for my liking;)
having a dog now to keep you company while you're home all day alone is cool...but just keep in mind - if you expect your schedule to ever changes and you both end up with jobs that take you out of the house for all hours, then the dog is f*d.
ReplyDeletei can relate all too well. i go to work then straight to school. by the time i get home, it's 10 pm. so most days during the week, i have to be around everyone else, BUT my fiance. it's really sad. and don't worry, we all still love you. now, go get a dog! :p
ReplyDeletei'm totally picking up what you're throwing down. and yes, you need a dog. my dog (truman) has saved me from being lonely many a time...
ReplyDeleteOMG. I'm obsessed with those weirdo hairless cats.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty much with you 100% on this one. If I didn't have the kittens to keep me company while I was alone all day I would go NUTS.
ReplyDeleteditto feeling lonely.
ReplyDeletewe went from both being unemployed and home all day, to working opposite shifts. i see him for like an hour before we fall asleep each night.
Working from home is lonely sometimes. But sometimes it means you get to eat lots of cookies and no one is there to watch you. Some other times it means you get to dance about in your unders and punch at the air.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, though, it's just lonely.
get a pet ! that's why i have my little fuzzies. my boyfriend is out of town most weeks (all week, it's lonely), so i have little buddies to keep me company when i am toodling around.
ReplyDeletewhen i worked at the SPCA i had to type up health certificates for people who traveled by plane with pets, and a guy came in with a sphinx who looked a lot like this one. his name (the cat) was igor, and he was flying with his owner to the ukraine. he (the cat) was wearing an oatmeal-colored fisherman's sweater.
ReplyDeleteworking from home makes you lonely. sometimes i am working day and night... there are days i really enjoy it and then others that just suck and you don't get anywhere.
ReplyDeletei better get back to my dresses.
(don't get a dog. it wants your attention and a lot of time. cat could work)
two words : cat pee.
ReplyDeleteTraining a dog to not pee in the house can be a huge pain (so I hear). But then, cleaning out the cat's litter box is annoying/stinky/a pain (which I know). It is nice to have a cute little thing around, though, to talk to and snuggle on your lap when you're home by yourself all day.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand your blob feelings, though. I work from home now, and I rarely leave the house. It's hard to be motivated to sometimes. (It's also kind of depressing.)
@lauren you just made me snort my coffee.
ReplyDelete@Julia you are so right. that's why I won't commit to HOUSEPLANTS, let alone a fish, a dog, or a baby (god forbid).
my guy is 3 weeks away, one week back. it makes those 7 days so much sweeter.... but frankly my parrots are fine company in the meantime
ReplyDeletego get some cockatoos and macaws. they talk back!
I so understand. When my fiance moved out (to another city) I had all this time on my hands. All I wanted to do was sit next to him or touch him or something.
ReplyDeletePS. You are way better than me with the dishes.
@buhdoop the kitchen is currently spotless. I keep thinking I'm in the wrong house.
ReplyDeleteLove hairless cat photo - too cute.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are feeling lonely. You should totally get a pet!
