ban.do + The Madonna Inn
Since I didn't manage to take any blogworthy photos while I was at the ban.do studio on Monday,* I'll just give you this rad image from the new issue of Paper Mag featuring a custom ban.do headpiece, styled by Shirley Kurata and shot at the Madonna Inn.
While I'm at it, may I recommend the Madonna Inn?** On our first anniversary, H-town and I spontaneously packed up our two-day "camping trip" a day early and spent the night in the Madonna's Vous room, which features a round king-size bed and rounded walls. It was like being inside a David Lynch movie. In a really really good way.

*Hey, I was too busy giggling and putting things on my head. Who knew I would have so much fun putting things on my head?
**No connection to Madonna Louise Ciccone. This place has been around since she was born.
david lynch movie like environment... king size bed...
ReplyDeleteliv just got a few more reasons to come to california.
and i will put things on my head!
My permanent roommate worked at the Madonna Inn while in college and actually got fired by Alex Madonna himself because he was bored and was putting white out on his fingernails while they were taping a commercial (he wasn't even in the shot and the restaurant was closed because of the taping). It's such a random story. We always giggle about it when we go to SLO. And all the pink in that place is like a 20 gallon bottle of Pepto Bismol exploded. It has such a quirky charm.
ReplyDeleteputting things on your head? yes.
ReplyDeletegiggling? no. can't picture it.
I thought I was giggling... but cevd snapped a few iphone pics where I thought I was smiling and I look like I'm about to bite someone's head off. So.
ReplyDeletethose girls are quite accommodating and hilarious huh?
ReplyDeleteso jealous you got to check out the studio.
ReplyDeletei wore a ban.do for my rehearsal dinner and i am still obsessed with it... kiwi said, and i quote... "what are you wearing on your head? are those turkey feathers?"
men.
fuck yes! I grew up on the Central Coast and have always adored the Madonna Inn. The Mister and I live in Oregon now, but we just went back to Cali to celebrate our 5 year anniversary there in December. I could drink overpriced G & T's all day long by that ginormous rock fireplace.
ReplyDeleteoh the madonna inn. oh ban.do.
ReplyDeleteSo jealous that you got to go to the ban.do studio!! loved that shot too!!
ReplyDeleteI worked at the Madonna Inn all through college... it's such a crazy place, but so fun. I still have nightmares about waiting tables in the steak house. This is the first time I've made it to your blog and it's hilarious. I'll definitely be adding it to my reader. Thanks for the nostalgic moments.
ReplyDeleteESB! I got maybe too excited to hear that you stayed in the Vous room, as it is my favorite (even though I've never been to the inn, yet am dying to go). Also, my lovely cousin used it as the backdrop for her Spring/Summer collection, which you may or may not enjoy :) http://dearcreatures.com/
