Fuck You, Penguin has plumbed the inner depths of my soul.
I fish for compliments like crazy. (H-town posed the rhetorical question last night: Is it really necessary to look good for a trip to the video store? Answer: yes. And you must tell me I look good in order to get me out of the house. "You look fine" will send me back into the bedroom to change clothes.)
And I say I want sneakers for Christmas, but I insist on picking them out. I won't even go into what a project that is. (The style, the fit, the shade of black....) Chances are I will not have them on my hot little feet December 25th. And it's my own damn fault.

black masks might actually be the next thing
Martha called it.
But I will stop trying to predict. You may get the mistaken impression that I'm cutting edge. While I sit here in my husband's dirty t-shirt.
Seriously though, fabulous photo booth props.

can I tell you something dorky?
This beautiful shot by Karen Wise reminds me.... I wore an assy-looking tank top for my hair/makeup test the day before the wedding and people took a thousand pictures.
My advice to you is, plan great outfits for the entire wedding week. You will be amazed by the number of cameras pointed at you.

Slow Down, Speed Up
first milk writes such lovely posts. She makes me want to slow down and speed up at the same time. And reminds me it is indeed possible to have fun away from the computer.
Our thirteen-year-old niece is coming to visit for five days! and I plan to do all of the above.
p.s. What are the boys doing while all the girls are obsessively posting self-portraits on flickr? Just curious.*

Lebowski sweaters are hot
And ebay knows it. The best ones start around $129.99.
But aren't they awesome? I kind of like the variations on the theme with hunters and skiers and ducks.... I think H-town and I will be combing the thrift stores on our next trip north.
p.s. If you think the Dude look isn't chic, check out Jermaine Brown. And call it a Cosby sweater.

wondering where to get a custom brocade suit?
Or something slightly more understated, but with a retro vibe? Check out Duchess, Clothier of Portland. (Their seersucker beats J. Crew's any day.)
Portland, enough already. We can't take it anymore.
I stand corrected, b/t/w. GW's suit, custom made by Duchess, was in fact caramel cotton velvet.

Wee Groom Style
It often skeeves me out when they dress kids up for weddings. (Please don't put little boys in tuxedos. Ever.)
But these two are rockin it. They actually like what they're wearing. Either that or the photographer, Leo Patrone, is a genius.

According to the WSJ, newly unemployed corporate types are busting out (inspired, of course, by the hipsters). Via the Cut.

Portland DJ embraces winter
Remember Matt? A little snow in Portland and he's gone fully metrognome.
I'm worried about what will happen to my Texas/LA man when I bring him to New York for two weeks. May not be the best time of year to sell him on living in the city....

neo-edwardian groomsman (1972)
I am hesitant to post these, as I haven't had luck contacting musicmuse_ca (pictured above left, with her brother Garth) for permission, but the photos are burning a hole in my pocket.
Does Garth not have incredible style? I actually might have been a little pissed if I were the groom.

I'm a little slow on the uptake
But white lightning has prompted me to point out that this lady is best in bangs.

CNC by Costume National
I dig it. These and a bunch more tuxedo-inspired looks are on sale at revolveclothing.com
p.s. I refuse to jump on the blogging-about-Gossip-Girl bandwagon, but.... Did you see Chuck's black sequin tuxedo jacket? And then Lew Ashby rocked a he-ot tux jacket with a silver collar on the last episode of Californication. With a t-shirt and jeans, of course. (If anyone knows who designed that jacket, please tell me.)

Groomsmen punk out at prom-themed wedding
The bridesmaids wore vintage prom dresses. Awesome.
But did the groomsmen wear the appropriate vintage tuxes? Nope.
I will give them points for being adorable.
See the rest of the wedding on snippet & ink. Photos by Flint Photography.

If I were getting married again
I'd put something really big on my head. Actually, these would also be stellar for a bad hair day.

Speaking of juice beauty....
I like to think all the organic juice we're making in our f'ing fabulous new juicer is really good for my skin. (Yes, I think carrots have magical powers.)
But do I negate the positive effects when I add vodka?

I already have a furry hat...
But I can't stop thinking about this one from Oh, Leoluca that Joanna posted yesterday.
It could have something to do with how great the model's haircut is. And how well her bangs work with the hat.
Anyhoo, if anyone is wondering what to get me for Christmas, this falls well under the $100 cap. I'm a total dumbass for reposting it, right?

Tuxedos at H&M
Jacket (in black or grey) $69.90, shirt $39.90, vest $24.90, pants $39.90.
Total: less than your f'ing dress (unless you are Sara), so please don't make him rent!
Thank you to Tenacious Dee for the heads up.

Juice Beauty
I have finally let go of my old Neutrogena products and gone organic.
I especially love Juice Beauty's Green Apple SPF 15 Moisturizer. It smells amazing and it doesn't have that weird pasty consistency that used to keep me from wearing sunscreen every day. Plus it's made without nano-technology. (Phew.)
The lip plumper also rocks.

I dig your style too, man...
I think it's safe to say The Big Lebowski is H-town's all-time favorite movie. He can find an applicable quote for any situation, and god forbid you should interrupt if he feels the urge to recite a whole scene.
This year's Lebowski Fest at Lucky Strike Lanes brought out some hard-core fans. See more photos (and hear what they have to say) on New York Mag's The Look Book.
When asked how he put together his costume, Pete Larkin, the dude pictured above right, said, "It came out of the closet, man. I’ve been the Dude all along. They basically made a movie about me."
The New York Times covered the Fest from the White Russian angle. (Also choosing to publish a photo of Peter. That dude was posing all night.)

Note to self: cut your bangs
Or, rather, have them cut by a professional. Stay *away* from the mustache scissors.

I also must mention
The Echo Park Time Travel Mart, LA's answer to the Pirate Supply Store.
Both are non-profit ventures that support writing/tutoring centers for students ages 6 to 18.
The Time Travel Mart really must be seen to be believed. It's like a tiny museum.

Pirate it is*
Pirate Love necklace by VeraMeat on etsy or at catbird. And let's not forget the Pirate Love ring.
p.s. If you get to San Francisco, be sure to stop by the Pirate Supply Store. Where they do indeed sell eyepatches. (And, sometimes, mustaches. But that is a moot point.)
*Thanks Meg.

I'm calling it. Mustaches are over.
Not the real kind (as seen on my husband and Mark Ruffalo). Those will never be over.
But the rest of the mustache sh*t has reached saturation point. The proof is in this Flip Mino that Lauren alerted me to.
Once the corporate world starts copping the indie trend, it's time to move on.
(Please. Submit ideas for what's next. I'm at a total loss here.)

one more from Winnie the Pooh
Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh," he whispered.
"Yes, Piglet?"
"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw, "I just wanted to be sure of you."
After deliberating over several Pooh quotes, H-town and I settled on this one to begin our wedding ceremony.
I have a habit of saying "Hi" out of the blue even if H-town and I have been sitting next to each other for hours. I also like to whisper even when we're alone together. I'm definitely the Piglet in the relationship.
(I smiled all over when I saw that Peonies and The Boy included this Pooh quote in their ceremony.)

enough already with the awesome t-shirts
I can't take it any more. Although if you buy this one you're also doing Clinton a favor, right? And you have to love the recession-friendly $14.99 price tag.

What I really want is an I Tap NY water bottle. Would I look like a complete dork carrying it around LA?
