I've been thinking about parasols... and this post on Style Me Pretty fed my urge to buy a bunch for the guests.
Our ceremony is slated for 4 o'clock, and the August sun might really be beating down. (I hope it is!)
Good idea, or extraneous crap?
Vixenforhire, pictured here, offers a strong endorsement.
I'm having the same dilemma!
ReplyDeleteTrying to cut out the crap, especially anything disposable, or that is likely to be disposed of. Like, you know, 60 parasols. BUT the wedding is taking place just before sunset. in September. In Joshua tree. The middle of the desert........ It might be necessary.... Jamie
I think you need parasols. They're so much prettier in the pictures than sunglasses ;)
ReplyDeleteI had not EVEN thought of that....! It might be settled.
ReplyDeleteI thought about parasols too, but I haven't found anywhere cheap enough to buy 50 in the UK. I always thought they were a great idea but I've read a lot of people describe them as extraneous crap recently. But with an outdoor wedding, in August, I think that they're actually quite a considerate thing to buy for your guests. Especially if your ceremony is outside and in the sun, people aren't going to enjoy it if they're too exposed. I'd have them instead of favours though, so they didn't seem so extravagant!
ReplyDeleteMy uncle, who's a potter, has already started making cups for everybody. (Isn't that sweet?) A handmade, immediately useful favor - it means we can skip the coffee/tea cup rental.
ReplyDeleteBut I still might take a wee trip to Chinatown... Just to take a look at the parasols. It would be a considerate gift, as you point out, peonies ;P
That's a really gorgeous favour idea. Non-edible favours that I like, that's a serious achievement esb! Oh to have a Chinatown. We have a street with two Chinese restaurants and a wholesaler on it. It's known as Little China here. Scotland is small. And none too multi-cultural.
ReplyDeleteWhelp. The pubs in LA are shite. And the don't get me started on the castles...
ReplyDeleteI don't think they're extraneous crap if they're serving a practical purpose - to keep the sun and glare off of people. I think they become extraneous when they're provided and not really "needed".
ReplyDeleteChinatown sounds like a good bet.
